About Me
Somdatta holds a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling , life coaching with a focus on Dance/Movement Therapy from Rider University, along with an undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts from the same institution. Inspired by her own life experiences, she is passionate about making a difference as a therapist, leveraging her resilience and personal journey. Originally from India, Somdatta has lived in the U.S. for 23 years, with a prior background in banking. An artist at heart, she also curates collaborative musical and movement projects with other artists. Somdatta is currently working under supervision with a provisional license (LAC) and specializes in helping individuals facing anxiety, depression, bipolar and mood disorders, and trauma. She works with clients of all ages, using a variety of therapeutic approaches, including person-centered therapy, existential therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy.
Bit About My Approach to Therapy
Somdatta’s therapy approach is holistic and integrative, combining counseling skills such as active listening and empathy to understand each client’s unique worldview. She values the individual experiences and perceptions that clients bring to the process. Somdatta believes that personal growth and finding purpose can be transformative. She also incorporates movement therapy when appropriate in her sessions.
What to expect in the first session
In the first session, Somdatta focuses on understanding the client's personal history, struggles, and needs while building rapport. She identifies the client's strengths and explores both healthy and unhealthy coping skills. Somdatta also examines the client's lifestyle to determine factors that may help or hinder progress. The client is involved in collaboratively creating a treatment plan.
